Hampton Secrets

How do you divide household contents during a separation?
Some say, “Call a lawyer!”—which can feel a bit like trying to kill a fly with a nuclear bomb. Dividing items yourself can usually be done fairly and painlessly.
While every situation is unique and this method won’t suit everyone, here is a simple, equitable approach:
1. Make a comprehensive list of all the household contents that need to be divided.
2. Create an alternate “Pick List” (His and Hers): Each parent takes turns choosing just one item from the list at a time until everything has been selected. This keeps the process balanced and fair, with each parent deciding what is most important to them.
3. Can’t decide who goes first? Simply toss a coin.
